USD figures are approximate (FX Oct 20, 2026). The official currency figure is what the authority applies.

Savings ≠ the whole application. These figures are only the financial test. Each authority also asks for other documents (remote-work proof, insurance, background checks), listed on the program page and the official source.

Savings needed on top of income (2)

These official sources ask for a minimum bank balance as well as the income test. Savings don't replace income here.

These programs test a bank deposit, but they are residence or retirement routes rather than remote-work visas, so we don't rank them here.

Quick answers

Which digital nomad visas accept savings instead of income?

Destination Thailand Visa (THB 500,000 in the bank for each of the last 3 months), Brazil Digital Nomad Visa (USD 18,000 in available funds), Croatia Temporary Stay of Digital Nomads (€43,470 in savings for a 12-month stay, or €65,205 for 18 months) and Mexico Temporary Resident Visa (an average balance of 11,460 days of UMA (about €67,325, per the consulate) over the last 12 months), going by their official sources. Destination Thailand Visa tests savings only; the others let you choose between an income test and a savings test.

Which one needs the least savings?

Destination Thailand Visa: THB 500,000 in the bank for each of the last 3 months, about $14,893 at exchange rates of Oct 20, 2026 (washingtondc.thaiembassy.org, checked Oct 26, 2026).

Can you get a digital nomad visa without proof of income?

Destination Thailand Visa has no income test: the official rule is a bank balance (THB 500,000 in the bank for each of the last 3 months). Brazil, Croatia and Mexico accept savings as an alternative to income. The other open remote-work programs we track set an income test, or don’t publish a financial figure at all. The other documents (contracts, insurance, background checks) still apply, so check each program page.

How much savings do you need for Croatia’s digital nomad visa?

€43,470 in savings for a 12-month stay, or €65,205 for 18 months (mup.gov.hr, checked Oct 26, 2026). That is the monthly income bar (€3,622.50) multiplied by the months you stay: 12 × €3,622.50 = €43,470 and 18 × €3,622.50 = €65,205.

How much money do you need for Brazil’s digital nomad visa?

Either USD 1,500 a month from a foreign employer or USD 18,000 in available funds, which is 12 months of the monthly figure (gov.br, checked Oct 26, 2026).

Which visas want savings on top of income?

Indonesia Remote Worker Visa: A 3-month bank statement showing at least USD 2,000, on top of the USD 60,000 income test; Taiwan Digital Nomad Visa: A 6-month average bank balance of at least USD 10,000, on top of the salary test. These are extra conditions, not alternatives to the income test.

What about deposit-based programs like MM2H?

Malaysia My Second Home: A fixed deposit in a Malaysian bank from USD 150,000 (Silver), plus buying a residence. A long-stay residence programme, not a remote-work visa; Thailand Non-Immigrant O-A: A THB 800,000 bank deposit (or income plus deposit totalling THB 800,000 a year). Age 50+ and no work allowed. We list them separately because they aren’t remote-work visas.

Why isn’t every country on this list?

We only list a savings route when the official source states one. If a program’s page only gives an income figure, we don’t assume savings are accepted.
