Key differences
- Only Brazil publishes a figure: USD 1,500 a month from a foreign employer, or USD 18,000 in available funds. Argentina’s official page sets no income amount; it asks for proof of your remote work (a contract, a company letter or income receipts).
- Brazil gives the longer stay: up to 1 year, renewable for the same period (with your CRNM migrant ID, fresh criminal record certificates and fresh proof you still qualify). Argentina gives 180 days, renewable once for another 180.
- Where you apply differs: Brazil’s VITEM XIV is a consular visa (Toronto quotes CAD 150, CAD 435 for US nationals, and typically 10 business days). Argentina’s residence is applied for from inside Argentina, in person (by email appointment in Buenos Aires city, or at a migration office elsewhere), and only by nationals of countries that don’t need a tourist visa for Argentina.
- Paperwork: Brazil asks for health insurance valid in Brazil for the whole stay, a criminal record certificate issued in the last 3 months, a declaration that you can work remotely and proof of employment with your foreign employer. Argentina asks for an Argentine criminal record certificate (16+), a CV, and foreign documents legalised or apostilled and translated into Spanish. Neither official page we check confirms family rules.
