Key differences
- The bars are close but measured differently: Hungary asks for €3,000 a month net, shown for the 6 months before entry and kept up during the stay. Czechia asks for CZK 885,870 a year gross (about CZK 73,823 a month), 1.5× the average gross salary set by the Ministry of Labour (CZK 590,580 for May 2026 – April 2027).
- Czechia is far narrower: only IT and marketing professionals from 13 countries (Australia, Brazil, India, Israel, Japan, Canada, South Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, Singapore, the UK, the US and Taiwan), and employees need a foreign employer with 50+ staff. The Ministry of Industry and Trade admits applicants at its discretion. Hungary’s White Card is open to any non-EEA national who works remotely for an employer outside Hungary or owns a share in a profitable company outside Hungary, but you can’t work for a Hungarian employer or hold a share in a Hungarian company.
- Family is the big split: Czechia lets close family be included. Hungary allows no family reunification for White Card holders (except a child born in Hungary).
- Hungary’s White Card runs up to 1 year and can be extended once, for another year, from inside Hungary via Enter Hungary; it costs €110 at a consulate abroad. Czechia decides the visa or permit within 45 days of admission to the programme, but the official pages we check don’t state the stay length or fee, and you can’t apply if you held a Czech long-term visa or permit in the previous year.
Quick answers
Which needs less income, Hungary or Czechia?
Hungary White Card has the lower bar: about $3,365 a month, versus about $3,402 for Czechia Digital Nomad Programme (a gap of roughly $37 a month at exchange rates of Oct 20, 2026). But Hungary White Card's figure is net (after tax) and Czechia Digital Nomad Programme's is gross (before tax), so they aren't directly comparable: a net bar needs a higher gross income.
